I originally planned for this column to be about workplace handling. But, as I began to organize it, I realized that the first important steps to efficient workplace handling begin with process planning that has the workplace in mind.
In every manufacturing, assembly or warehousing operation, we can find workplaces where good industrial engineering practices can make the job easier, faster and safer. But, before we begin that task, there is an opportunity to modify the process, and consequently, the material handling requirements to make the redesign effort even more effective.
